Over the years, I have searched for a way to better portray an athlete in their environment while playing. Various angles, treatments, lens lengths etc. never really produced the results I wanted. That was until I noticed a habit of mine to shoot from a distance, at a fairly low angle, in portrait orientation with the athlete in the lower third of the image and the crowd, stadium and environment filling the top two-thirds. When done correctly, it portrays the felling I get when I am down on the sidelines looking around the stadiums I am working in. The athlete can stand out from the crowd while simultaneously fitting in to the overall environment. And so, I began culling previous images that fit this criteria and purposely capturing others at events I was working.
I present the ongoing Lower Third series.
